Nepal and Djibouti set up diplomatic ties

Nepal’s Permanent Representative and Ambassador to the United Nations Durga Prasad Bhattarai and Mohamed Siad Doualeh, ambassador and permanent representative of the Republic of Djibouti to the UN, signed an instrument to this effect at a brief ceremony at the Permanent Mission of Nepal in New York on Friday.

The two ambassadors exchanged views on expanding the areas of cooperation at bilateral and multilateral forums, and committed to working together in pursuit of peace, development and common prosperity ahead, the Nepali mission in New York said in a statement.

The Republic of Djibouti is a country situated in the Horn of Africa and serves as a transit route for east African countries. It has a population of 850,000. Djibouti joined the United Nations on 20 September 1977.

Both Nepal and Djibouti are members of the Non-Aligned Movement and the Group of 77 and they have worked together in the UN platform for common interest of the Least Developed Countries.

The number of countries with which Nepal has established diplomatic relations has reached 147.
